Why this exists

Reading on a screen is broken. Your eyes dart left to right, line after line, fighting distractions the entire time. For people with ADHD or dyslexia, it's even worse — the text might as well be swimming.

RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) fixes this by flashing words at a single fixed point. Your eyes don't move. Your brain just absorbs. It's not a hack or a gimmick — it's a technique backed by decades of cognitive science research.

ReadingQuick takes that science and wraps it in a tool you'd actually want to use. Dyslexia-friendly fonts, research-backed color themes, adjustable speeds from 100 to 1,000 WPM, and full keyboard control for the focus-obsessed.

The science

RSVP was first studied in the 1970s as a way to measure visual cognition. Researchers found that when words appear at a fixed focal point, the brain can process them significantly faster than during traditional left-to-right reading — because you eliminate saccadic eye movements (the tiny jumps your eyes make between words).

ReadingQuick also uses ORP (Optimal Recognition Point) highlighting — the letter at roughly 35% of each word is highlighted, which research shows is where your eye naturally fixates first. This means your brain recognizes each word faster.

The color themes aren't random either. The peach theme is based on a 341-person study by Rello & Bigham (2017) that found warm-toned backgrounds significantly improved reading performance for dyslexic readers. The gray theme comes from Chuang et al. (2020), which found gray backgrounds optimal for RSVP displays specifically.

The stack

ReadingQuick is intentionally simple. No frameworks, no build steps, no dependencies.
